Sumorobot
The Dwengo board is the ideal platform for building your own autonomous robot. In our tutorials we show how to build a light-eating robot. With a few extra sensors you can extend the robot to a sumorobot which is ready to participate in a sumo robot competition.
Since 2008, the Workshop Electronics
(WELEK) of Ghent University
organizes a yearly robot competition. In 2008 a dozen robots succeeded in driving autonomously towards the light. Building upon the success of this first edition, WELEK decided in 2009 to host a real sumo-robot competition (in Dutch)
. The aim of such a contest is simple: robots duel one-on-one, the first to push its competitor outside the arena, wins.
The brains of the robots
The robots are completely autonomous. Their brain is programmed in the microcontroller of the Dwengo board, which was developed by the Workshop Electronics. Today, the non-profit organization Dwengo vzw supports the further development and distribution of this board. For more information, please contact
info@dwengo.org.
If you also like to build such a robot, visit the WELEK website
where you can find inspiration in a few cool movies
of last year's competition.
